BMI provides a guideline based on your weight and height to determine whether you are underweight at a normal weight, overweight or obese. It is a helpful tool to understand your overall health as you begin or continue with your fitness plan.
The generally accepted range for BMI is:
BMI less than 18.5 is Underweight
BMI 18.5 to 24.9 is Normal weight
BMI 25 to 29.9 is Overweight
BMI 30 or higher is Obese
Note that individuals with a high muscle mass and low body fat, such as body builders and professional athletes, may have a high BMI but may not be overweight or obese.
