Magnuson Athletic Club (MAC) is a large and beautiful facility in the Seattle neighborhood of Laurelhurst. Magnuson currently serves about 1,700 members with the capacity and business goal to double their membership. Facing a variety of challenges, including being ‘off the beaten path,’ this facility has embraced their partnership with Precor. Since the partnership began, the facility has seen outstanding success in attracting new members as well as ensuring the gym is providing the best workout experience for each of its exercisers.
Despite having a state-of-the-art facility in a beautiful location, MAC still faced a number of challenges in attracting new members and providing an excellent gym experience:
- Wanting to be more than just a fitness facility, the team had a desire to connect people and build an outstanding community within the tight knit neighborhood.
- With a large membership group of exercisers over the age of 50, MAC wanted state-of-the-art equipment that was also easy to use, no matter the age of the user.
- The success of their member’s fitness relied on gaining insights into member behavior in order to ensure their members were having the best workouts possible.
Through their partnership with Precor, MAC has been able to provide their members with a state-of-the-art fitness experience through Preva®, the Precor networked fitness solution. As an early adapter, MAC is an active user of Preva by using the Message Manager feature and the Asset Management system.
The member experience begins with 32 pieces of cardio from the 880 series featuring the Precor award-winning P80 touchscreen. Preston Crouser, MAC’s General Manager said, “the console is so easy that I show [the 50 and older crowd] once and they pick it up quickly.”
Through the Preva Business Suite and its Asset Manager function, the team has been able to gain a number of interesting insights into member behavior. For example, through the Daily Equipment report, MAC learned that their cardio equipment usage was at greatest capacity during the morning and evening, with a lull period in-between, so they have decided to do some extra promotion to attract more afternoon users. That is only one of the many valuable insights the MAC team has garnered since utilizing the new Precor equipment and the Preva Asset Manager system.
