Precor® Receives Sustainability Honor from Seattle Business Magazine

Company Named Winner in Manufacturing Category

Woodinville, WA — October 30, 2013 — Precor®, a leading commercial and home fitness equipment manufacturer, today announced Seattle Business magazine named the company to the Washington Green 50 list. The company won the top honor in the manufacturing category for its track record of progressive environmental stewardship, including waste reduction and efficiency, recycling, “upcycling” and manufacturing best practices.

“Precor is setting an example for other manufacturing businesses in the area by continually re-inventing what it means to be green,” said Michael Romoser, Associate Publisher, Seattle Business magazine. “They are a company that wants to top what they’ve been able to achieve before with something new and more impactful. We’re happy to recognize their hard work and constant innovation in sustainability.”

Precor was recognized for a combination of environmental practices, including:

  • Waste Reduction/Recycling Education: Employees participate in recycling training programs, leading to a direct reduction in the company’s landfill waste.
  • Compactor Waste: The company redirects its predominantly dry compactor waste to a local recycling facility so that all recyclable material can be sorted out before going to the landfill.
  • Recyclable Items: Precor recycles a large number of materials, including Styrofoam, LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene - such as bubble wrap, plastic bags, foam packaging sheets, etc.), plastic (nylon) strapping and ABS plastic.
  • Treadmill Belt Upcycling: The company provides belt waste to Upcycle Goods, a company that turns this material into iPad protection sleeves.
  • “Smart” Welding Ventilation: An automated system modulates motor output based on demand and ensures ventilation gates are only open when a robot is welding and closed when it is not, resulting in energy savings.

“Precor carefully weighs the social and environmental impact of its business and takes great pride in the sustainability programs it has created,” said Rob Barker, president of Precor. “We are always looking for new opportunities to eliminate hazardous substance use and hazardous waste, while increasing recycling and acceptable treatment methods. It’s an honor to be recognized for our efforts.”

Precor pollution prevention objectives have allowed the company to attain a Zero Hazardous Waste Generator status as well as a “No Exposure Certification.” The company’s powder coating process has received King County’s Industrial Waste Program “Gold Award” four years in a row. This designation is given to industrial waste permit holders that have no enforcement actions or violations.

Precor has also received the King County “Distinguished Business in the Green” Award, King County “Model Metal Working Fluid Management Program” designation and the Washington State Department of Ecology Metal Machining  Sector “Best Practice” recognition.

Precor® Preva® Open API Connects Fitness Clubs and Wellness Brands with Largest Source of In-gym Workout Data

Preva-powered Apps and Services Advance Consumer Health and Fitness Goals

Woodinville, WA — September 17, 2013 — Precor®, a leading commercial fitness equipment manufacturer, today announced the Preva® Developer Portal, a centralized way for developers to integrate with Preva, the industry’s most widely deployed networked fitness solution. Preva is deployed in more than 1,400 commercial installations worldwide, making it the largest source of data for in-gym workouts. Fitness facilities, mobile app developers and service providers use the company’s open API to bring Preva data, such as individual workout summaries, lifetime metrics, goal types and progress and rewards earned, into their own apps, products and services.

“Since its launch in 2010, Preva has been providing the industry with a wealth of information on workout habits and trends,” said Dave Flynt, Director of User Experience, Precor. “Using this data, industry stakeholders keep a firm grasp on what experiences exercisers are having in the gym, helping them better understand how best to facilitate an exerciser’s fitness journey. Our data is more accurate than any survey, helping fitness players better hone in on what’s needed to help consumers lead a healthier lifestyle.”

Facilities use the open API to incorporate real-world Preva exerciser data into their offerings. With development, they can hold Preva achievement badge contests, where top earners are highlighted on Facebook or Twitter. They can create a “calories burned tracker” for their website and hold metrics-driven contests such as “distance traveled” programs to encourage longer, more productive workouts in the gym. Mobile app and other online health services, such as those tracking activities like running or cycling, nutrition and other wellness criteria, can sync Preva exerciser data with their own solutions to improve the accuracy, applicability and value of their quantified self services.

Precor is the only networked fitness provider to offer an API to anyone without registration. Developers that want to integrate their data into the Preva experience can learn more at www.Preva.com/developerportal

Health rewards organization EveryMove has both leveraged the Preva API and integrated its platform into the Preva experience. When Preva exercisers link their account to EveryMove, their workout data seamlessly imports into the EveryMove platform, where they earn discounts, merchandise and charitable donations simply by exercising.

“Like Precor, EveryMove is in the business of helping people improve themselves,” said EveryMove CEO Russell Benaroya. “Integrating with Preva, we’ve been able to help exercisers record their workouts and earn rewards from popular brands, their employer, their health care provider and even their gym. It’s this positive association between working hard and being rewarded that will drive long-term change across the large portion of exercisers who strive to meet their fitness goals.”

About the Preva Networked Fitness Solution
Preva is an open platform networked fitness solution. It was introduced in 2010 and is used by more than 1,400 facilities in 37 countries. The inspired connection of people and the technology that empowers their fitness journey, Preva provides exercisers with the tools and experiences to set, reach and exceed their goals. These same technologies also help facility operators better manage their business with solutions that improve equipment utilization, increase retention and drive revenue.

Through a combination of touchscreen equipped fitness equipment, a mobile app and a website all connected via the cloud, Preva helps both operators and exercisers meet their goals. Precor® is committed to continually evolving and refining Preva with the industry's only dedicated in-house software Experience Development Center.
